Why do you want to be an IFAD Ambassador?

As a black flow artist, I want to be a role model to those who feel as if they are having trouble finding a place in the hoop community (or the flow arts community as a whole). I want to be able to positively represent other fellow black flow artists through this event. On top of that, this is an amazing way for the community to connect as a whole and to partake in something we all collectively enjoy, no matter where you’re from!

If you were to become an IFAD Ambassador, what kind of event do you imagine hosting?

Ideally, I would like to conduct a “hoops and heels class”, which would consist of a little choreography being taught and maybe a couple of tricks that would be ideal for moving in heels.

Tell us a bit about yourself, and share your flow story with us!

I’m 21 years old and from Virginia. I started my hooping journey senior year of high school, but fell off months after and picked it up again in March of 2020. I stopped because I didn’t see any people of color hula hooping, which discouraged me. However, as the community grew, I started to see more and more people of color, and soon enough, I found my way back. Hooping is an amazing way to keep the body moving and to take my mind off of my troubles. I am majoring in dance and my goal is to give back to my community by bringing affordable dance lessons to public schools in my area. My favorite color is blue, you can catch my listening to LoFi music most of the time, and I love dancing hip-hop and Afro-jazz! If I’m not hooping, you can find me at McDonald’s or Sonic’s enjoying a burger, fries and a vanilla shake- no shame around here! I am apart of a modeling troupe at my university and I love to refer to them as my second home 💜💙. I love to move, but if I wasn’t dancing, I would probably be a photographer. I loved writing stories since I was a kid, and I believe that I can use the whole world to tell a story through pictures
