Why do you want to be an IFAD Ambassador?
I would love to have the opportunity to make a show case or perform with other fellow flow artists, musicians, artists, etc. I also would like to make challenges to spread more awareness to people all over the world about flow arts. And lastly, would love to teach people of all ages and create a workshop for people wanting to learn some props or make a community where people can learn from each other of all levels.
If you were to become an IFAD Ambassador, what kind of event do you imagine hosting?
I imagine hosting performances in my local area, doing challenges, also a workshop for people interested on learning different forms or props of flow.
Tell us a bit about yourself, and share your flow story with us!
A few years ago, I watched Dalton Sessumes's (@clearhumaneyes) youtube video performances and I was instantly mezmerized. It looked so cool to me. 3 years goes by and we are in 2020's pandemic. During the stay-at-home order, I ordered my leaviwand. At first, I was only set with my leviwand in May 2020. When I first received my wand I joined the leviwand forum group on Facebook in order to learn from others, find inspiration and connect with people who are trying to accomplish the same thing. I can’t say enough how amazing that forum is! (Now I’m in other groups).
Flow has then open a gateway to challenge other props. I swear to you I never planned to expand my props but realize I like doing multi props. I am so so surprised to have the opportunity to meet very amazing people over the internet all over the world during a pandemic where I feel so moved by people’s dedication, creativity, gratitude, support, authenticity, inspiration, etc. on Instagram & Facebook. How I feel this year is NO WHERE NEAR where I was a year ago, 5 years ago etc.
I used to do dancing for over 11 years such as tap dance, jazz, ballet, hip hop, and have done Japanese martial arts & fan dancing. I used to perform in NYC, NJ, Japan, etc. I was in a dance troop in college but after we finished our performance 2012, I stopped dancing even though I love it since I was born.
Flow gave me a way to retouch into my passion again. I was happy when I felt this firey passion every time I flow with my props. Every trick I teach myself is like a reward where I look forward to more days. This is a new form of meditation or a healthy escape for me. I am a person who overthinks and self doubt to things. Flow helped me able to turn off my brain for a moment and also help me enjoy doing physical movement as well. I hope to spread flow arts to many communities. It has certainly changed my life for the better. I hope that this will change someone's life too as it did for many flow artist. It is always a good feeling where you made more room for joy in your life.
